3:56 Is there a coolant feed to the system? Didn't see the purpose of it in your vid. I'd be using it to cut aluminum mostly. They have a model on Amazon that mention and shows (in the pics) a spindle for a 4th axis. Oddly, they show another on Amazon at the same price, but none of the pics show the bed-mounted spindle for the 4th axis. Did yours come with that?

Tip for anyone doing this. Make sure you use aluminium or bright steel. The 15mm fab steel is a pain to drill and tap.

Hi Thanks a lot for the nice series of video. Thank to you, i bought the same setup and start aluminium few days ago. But i have a strange issue, i have a kind of step effect that is more and more the deeper it mills. I choose a really small layer deep (0.2mm) to avoid too much effort and go slowly into the material but it has no effect. I did the same part into mdf but i have not this issue. It is like the steper mottor loose precision with the time or with a more harder material. Do you have an idea may be ? Again thanks a lot for your job !

I cannot send the picture to the machine? I dont have the the "arrow down or up button" to send it to the machine. When i hold the center button on the machine it starts to make something else. Is there a newer software? What am i doing wrong?

Is the 6040 a good CNC? What size of pieces can you mill? And lastly, have you used as a 5 axis setup?

I appreciate you making this video 👍 But I don't get why you put a glass plate on the bed and shim it, because you need to calibrate your spindle to the bed on which your work pieces are held down. I also note that your bed is too large, the cutter can not reach all corners to flatten the entire bed, leaving you with cupped bed which is not really handy?

Could I upgrade this machine for 316L STAINLESS STEEL?

I've had the same issue. But, I solved great deal of it by keeping a constant flow of compressed air directed at the cutter. Get those chips out of there as they get ground between the cutter and the previously cut surface. The second thing I did was leave a fairly large finishing allowance; I leave about .010" and then make a final 2-3 passes to clean it up. Finally, I switched to .125" cutters. I'd prefer to use .250" but they are too big for my work. I think the .125" flex too much so I get them as far up into the collet as is practical.

I have noticed substantial noise changed at 14:00 when the is moving from 6 o'clock to 4. This is probably flexing of the Z axis assembly it get stretched while the moving on Y axis . It could be back plate flexing or bolts stretching

I wish you would have gave the specs of your machine. It looked pretty beefy and I would have thought it would have easily handled the job so I am a bit disenfranchised looking at the purchase I made… I am looking to do similar work flows.

After 4 year's of use do you have any rust on the steel bed. I got ½" iron plate that i got from a an ironwork friend and i am planning on doing the same thing. The only what worries me is the water mist cooling system i have. I probably would have to paint the iron first

Huh, I don't think I'd thread a hole in the gear, install a socket on the end and chuck it up in a lathe just to get the bottom portion out-wow! Can't you just use a larger piece of material, get it close to the bottom and use a punch to tap it out?

If you run a couple of pieces of angle iron along the bottom of that plate inboard a bit from the edges, and just bolt it up from the bottom, it will get rid of any of the rest of the slop in the machine.

I've seen videos of upgrading this machine, giving it a Makita router head, and flat plates to locate the Z axis rather than the round bars. With those mods it can cut aluminum at something better than a snail's pace. It's actually a good little system for those who just want something to tinker with, making things like PCB boards and milling acrylic and the like.

Could this machine cut 0.5mm fabric? If so, how?

It is funny that most ppl use the VCC as the common, in mine i'm using Gnd as common and connecting the En+, Dir+, Pulse+ to the board. But also, i am using a different board. It worked. I was having issues since I confused that the 24V/5V switch, I thought it was 24V since I was getting this voltage from my Power supply. It was 5V, because i'm getting 5V from the board. -_- Spent 5 hs in this. Learning. Wonderful, tks for sharing.
